One More Night With The Frogs
Key Passage: Exodus 8
Date: June 7, 2024
And turn over to the book of Exodus, Exodus chapter number eight tonight. Exodus chapter number eight, we’ll continue on in the life of Moses.
And so being your place for that. Exodus chapter number eight, and Moses is going back into Pharaoh. And let’s find out what happens. It’s already been in there, chapter five. And Pharaoh said, I don’t know who your Jehovah God is. Pharaoh made his own decision. God didn’t harden his heart at that point. He made his own decision.
And then chapter six, it didn’t go good. It didn’t go good at all. I mean, Pharaoh said the other two too much time on their hands and take away the raw material, got to make the same amount of bricks, and well, they started persecuting them, and then they complained and got on to Moses. Moses stuck in a rock in a hard place, you know, and he had that prayer meeting, and God said, hey, Moses, they’ve given you a charge, what to do here.
And Moses goes in there with that rod, remember the rod, and it turned into the snake. And I remember old Pharaoh’s headdress, typically they had that snake, that cobra typically. That was one of their high gods. And God says, I think I’ll take that high God out right there, you know, and God just, boy, Aaron’s Rod ate up there, false gods, if you will, you know, the true God.
And then it turned the water into blood. Boy, they worship the Nile, the flooding of the Nile, the Fish God. All together up to this point, God’s already taken out seven that I know of seven of their gods, probably a lot more that we don’t know of, but seven of their gods up at this point. God’s just, he’s strategically taken out their false gods. It’s not a coincidence. These ten plagues happen like they did. God, every one of them, he’s got a reason for. It’s just awesome to see God take them out. And now Moses is back at Pharaoh in saying, let my people go, God’s people go.
And we’re in eight in verse number one.
And would you please stand as we read God’s Word together tonight?
In verse number one, here we go, wow, we got power, there it is. And the Lord spake unto Moses, go unto Pharaoh and saying to him, thus saith the Lord, let my people go, that they may serve me. And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs.
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly. Man, if you like frog legs, this might be the time for you. I tell you what, now, you know. I like him, but I don’t know about this good, you know.
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house and into thy bedchamber and upon thy bed. But I’d be interesting getting in bed that time, wouldn’t it?
And into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy ovens, and into thy kneading troughs. It even got in the kitchen. I mean, wouldn’t that be bad to cutting that loaf of bread, and there’s a frog in the middle of it. I’ve never had frog bread, you know? I mean, that’s what it’s talking about. And the frog shall come up both on thee and upon thy people and upon all thy servants.
And the Lord spake into Moses, saying to Aaron stretched forth thine hand with I rod over the streams and over the rivers and over the ponds and calls frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt. And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
You ever looked at the ground, maybe from a little distance in it, just like the ground, it looks like the ground’s moving. And to get a little closer, and it’s, you know, worms or roaches or whatever. This is frogs. The whole ground’s just covered frogs. Wow. What a time they had.
Let’s pray and ask the Lord that he had speak to hearts tonight through these frogs. Father, Lord, would you bless? Lord, help us to see it more, Lord, as it really happened. Lord helps to see through the surface. And Lord, let us see the real battle that’s going on. And Lord, strengthen us, encourage us as we study about this. Father, thank you for your power, your mind, thank you for your men that you used. Children of Israel, help us to learn and glean from him. And we’ll thank you, Lord, for what you do. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.
Thank you so much for standing. You may be seated. I want you to see this.
I’ll just use the pulpit mic for the time being. We’ll go somewhere. We’ll grab a hold of the other one here. But the frog goddess, one of their major gods, Hekat, I think is the way that pronounces the Egyptian goddess of fertility. She was represented in the form of a frog.
True, the Egyptians, the frog was an ancient symbol of fertility related to the annual flooding of the Nile. He could was the life of Numb, by whom she became the mother of her, which is one of their major, gods also. It has been proposed that her name, this is in, it has been proposed that her name is in the origin, Hecat, the Greek goddess of witchcraft. Isn’t that interesting?
Brother Tim, you’ve got those pictures there. Let’s look at some pictures here about this goddess of the frogs. I mean, every one of these plaques, there’s something going on here, all right?
You look over, you’ll see right here the frog. Can you give me a little more, Brother Tim, would you hear on this? You can see the frog there, and of course you can see the snake there. But let’s go on to the next one, would you please, sir?
And there it is again. This is from some of the Egyptian carvings that they’ve dug out in some museums today. Let’s go to the next one, if you would. Just a couple of these.
Here’s a picture of their goddess, the frog goddess. Would you go to the next one, please?
And, boy, there’s a beautiful statue there, I’ll tell you for sure. And Egyptian statue, would you go to the next one here?
And there’s another carving of the ancient Egyptian goddess. And for all goddess, let’s go to the next one. I think this is the last one.
Or is that the last one already? That’s the last one. I just wanted to see pictures of the goddess that our God, Jehovah God, was taken out.
And it is amazing. I’m going to go back to this here. It is amazing the spiritual warfare that is going on. I’ll be honest with the past as I read this, I didn’t understand how much spiritual warfare. I think Moses was getting bombarded from every angle, every side he could because the battle is on between the gods and God uses people. And Moses is right in the heat of this battle. He’s just, and just following what God wants, but man, he’s getting shot at from every side, but praise Lord God brings the victory. Always does, but there’s, there’s just such a spiritual warfare, because this thing really affects the world. In fact, the Bible teaches us that, a little bit later on, one of these Wednesday nights will get that. God talks about that. But so the world is a little bit here in the, oh, bears the consequences, so the battle is great. And this goddess of the frogs God’s going after. Very interesting.
Demons and frogs in the Bible are sometimes associated together. If you would, you look over in Revelation chapter number 16. Morning times, we’re going over the tribulation period. You want to try it, Brother Marley? We’ll give it a shot, amen. And I want you to see, this is during the tribulation period here. It’s interesting. Got a green line. We’ll see. Amen. What’s the one time when you stop on green and you go on red? Help me out. Somebody knows that one. When you’re eating watermelon, amen, that’s when you go on red and stop on green. Amen. That’s the only time now, you know. Amen. Besides that, you’re going green. You’ve got a green light, so we’re going to go, amen. Actually, that was from Brother Fontaine, I believe, is where I learned that from, you know, back of the day.
Revelation chapter number 16, you’re already there, and I’m not even there. We’re going to get there. And frogs and demons. And there’s false goddesses and demonic activity going on for sure here. And I want you to see it elsewhere when the Bible talks about frogs and demons.
Revelation 16 and would you look down in verse number 13? Revelation 16 verse number 13 would you say amen if you’re there? Good and he says there and I saw three unclean spirits like frogs. It’s right in the middle, towards the end of the tribulation period I should say. Unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon. Help me out. Who’s that? The devil, yeah. And out of the mouth of the beast, who’s that? Antichrist. And out of the mouth of the false prophet. He’s a leader of the false church, an oral church. He’s a false prophet. And they are the spirits of devils. working miracles which go forth under the kings of the earth and of the whole world to gather them to battle of that great day of God Almighty. I’m talking about the Battle of Armageddon there.
Now just a couple thoughts. Just a couple thoughts here about this. Number one, I want you to notice unclean spirits. Unclean. They’re dirty. The opposite of holy, the opposite of pure, these spirits, unclean spirits like frogs, they’re just dirty. The devil, his spirits are always just unclean.
Another thing about unclean, what’s the next word to use? Unclean spirits or attitudes. Yeah, they’re actually spirits, but attitudes or atmosphere. Spirit is amazing to me how a spirit of a classroom or a spirit at workplace, a spirit of a place can just change. Boom. And spirits, the Holy Spirit, and demonic spirits, they work with all that.
I often talk about a guy used to sing in our choir years and years ago, and he was just a touch handicapped, but he had such a good spirit. I can’t remember who was leading our choir then, but our choir leader at the time liked him to be in the choir, not because he could sing good if he sang out loud and oh my goodness, you know, but it brought such a good spirit with him. spirits these these unclean spirits it’s an attitude and atmosphere if you will that is created often by the spirit realm it’s amazing as well they’re not saying you think it’s amazing sometimes it’s not even something sad you know so much as body language and beyond
I’m always amazed how birds of a feather can flock together and they come in a room, don’t know each other, there’s 50 people there, but birds of the feather typically, they’ll pretty quickly find each other, and they don’t even talk to each other. How does all that work? There’s a spirit realm, there’s that atmosphere, there’s an attitude, these are unclean spirits.
Now what else is to say? He says, like frogs. Now what’s significant about frogs? I tend to think that it has a little bit to do with, you ever try to catch a frog? And about the time, about the time, especially when you get old, about the time to get your hand on it, it doesn’t jump. I mean, you know, it’s a crazy thing. You want to just step on it and then you can get it. You know, that wouldn’t be good, you know. Or maybe kick a boom, then I’ll get it, you know. They’re always just jumping. Man, they just jump before you can catch it. That’s why a spirit is. Man, you let one person come in with a bad attitude and you think you can’t catch it.
About the time, about the time, ask school teachers about it. About the time you think you got it under control, man, it doesn’t jump. In spirits. Like frogs.
I’ve told this story before, I thought it was so interesting. There’s a man when Hitler was on the rise, and he wasn’t a Hitler follower, but he just kind of wanted to go to one of his speeches, one of his campaigns, and find out what’s going on. And he said, he went to hear him. And he thought, oh, these are a bunch of crazy nuts worshipping this man. But before he knew it, he didn’t even realize it. Before he knew it, his hand was out. And he thought, what am I doing? Because he’s spirits. You know, and they could just jump before you can catch it. And a… It’s amazing how it works. They spread so quickly. Spread the church, the family, through the workplace, school, classrooms. It’s the spirit realm behind all that. Sure. And an unclean spirit like frogs.
Now, they come from Satan, these unclean, these bad spirits. By the way, he uses whoever, we remember, oh, I don’t know if it was last week of the week before. And that we were talking about Job. And the Lord said, hey, I’ll give Job into your hand, Satan. Remember the Chaldeans? And, oh, who’s the other crowd there, the Chaldeans? And I missed the first one there. There’s another group. They came and they killed their cattle and all. But I’m just saying Satan can move those people against them. And so Satan uses whoever to spread these spirits. Not only that, the false church. False prophet. Those that appear very spiritual.
By the way, here’s an interesting thing about the children of Egypt and they got God’s sending all these frogs and they had this frog goddess. They were not supposed to kill the frogs because that’s a goddess. Well, that works all right if you got a bunch of frogs over there than Nile River, but you’ve got frogs in your bed and in your kitchen. After a while, I’m sorry, but I’d have to kill a couple of their goddesses. You know what I’m saying? You’re not going to kill him. Let’s see how that goes, buddy, you know. And they got them all over.
And sometimes these spirits, unclean spirits, they seem to the world like they’re so innocent and sweet and so good and so, you know, nowadays they’re called bad, good and good, bad. And boy, if you say anything against that, you’re in trouble, you’re not supposed to do that. Well, sure. These frogs are coming from the false prophet. See? They had miracles. Did you notice that? They had miracles, he said, with the revelation. And these spirits that are like frogs, there’s power there.
Can I say, we don’t have many teenagers here tonight, and praise Lord the ones we have here are perfect. They never do anything wrong. Is that right, Grace and Joel and Lauren? Is that good preaching? Go out there, you know? Say, tell our mom and dad’s that, you know, amen. I say that we do have good teenagers here. But honestly, you get a teenager in a home or a classroom or somewhere with a bad attitude. Well, there’s power there. And they can really bring a youth group or a church or a family down. Same thing across the board, there’s power there. And it’s talking to a revelation about these unclean spirits like frogs. And boy, they can do miracles. There’s power there. There really is.
But in the end, God uses all these unclean spirits over there in Revelation. He uses all these unclean spirits to gather the armies of the world to the Battle of Armageddon when God’s going to squash them, you know. And I say that to say at the end of the day, God uses all these spirits and he’s still got control. And he’s working. Sometimes he’ll let them, by the way, he let Satan do all that in Job’s life. Why, so he can purify Job from his self-righteousness. God’s still working. And he’s working over here. So we’re back over here next. I just want to talk for a minute here about the frogs and all the demonic activities going on in the spirit realm.
And God brought these frogs up everywhere. Verse number seven, we’re in verse number seven, Exodus 8, verse number seven. And the magicians did so with their enchantments and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt. We talked last week, I believe it was, about how the devil has power and how their magicians, their sorcerers, had power to do things.
Just for a minute here, focus on this word enchantment. Noel Webster 1828 Dictionary says this, enchantment as far as a noun, the act of producing certain wonderful effects by the invocation and aid of demons. And the agency of certain supposed spirits, the use of magic, art, spells, charms, incantation. Enchantments.
Wizards and demonic activity, they use enchantment. I’m not going to harp on it for an hour, but can I say be careful with these video games? It’s got a lot of enchantments on there. That’s the word they use. And be careful with that. Can I say be careful with a lot of music? Demonic, that can put it an enchantment or a spell? I’m just in a spell by that music, yeah. And these magicians of Egypt, these worshippers of the devil and all these false gods, they could cast enchantment. And they’re brought forth frogs. The Bible calls them frogs, see. And there’s power of that.
Let’s keep going. Let’s keep going. Verse number eight. Eight in verse number eight of Exodus, chapter number eight here. Then Pharaoh called for Moses. And Aaron, boy, I like this. Up this point, Moses and Aaron’s been going to visit Pharaoh. He didn’t want them there, but this time with all these frogs. Pharaoh is calling for Moses and Aaron. I like this. This is a good change.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, entreat the Lord that he may take away the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go that they may do sacrifice unto the Lord. That’s the first time he’s called it for them. And that’s the first time he begins to compromise or let down just a touch. He’s saying at the moment he’s going to let him go, first time he’s done that.
Can I just say a word here? He’s not doing that because he’s been shown love. Now, you’ll reach some with love and of compassion, make you the difference with some, but some say that of fear. Pharaoh is not coming around to sing at God’s way because they’ve been over there saying, let’s sing kumbaya. He’s coming around because God’s chasing him. God’s putting it on him. I mean, he’s got frogs all over. Can’t even go to bed without frogs being there. Waters turned to blood. I mean, Aaron’s rod ate up his rod. And by the way, God knows how to deal with people. Doesn’t always deal the same way if you will. God’s working on Pharaoh. And Pharaoh’s beginning to change a little bit.
Now I’ll go back on it. By the way, what does the Bible say? It says twice. The Bible says, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. One time it says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Can I just say as a country and really, I’m talking about it all across, we lack the fear of the Lord. We’ve lost it. And we just think we’re so high and mighty. We can do whatever we want. We got all this power. We got it all figured out. And we have no fear of the Lord. And that’s why we lost all our wisdom.
Now, yes, perfect love cast without fear. They get saved and grown in the Lord. They’ll go beyond that. But the fear of the Lord is the beginning. Oh, how we need a fear of God in our nation. It’s a true, holy reverence of fear of God. As we make the laws and as we do these backyard deals, wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was more fear of God. As our professors teaching university, wouldn’t it be wonderful if they had a fear of God.
Pharaoh’s beginning a little fear in him. God’s just taking out his false gods, and he’s working on him. Can I say just a word here? We’ve got to hurry along tonight. I feel like I’ve been rambling here and there back and forth, trying to find out exactly what the Lord wants. Just talking about that, how God, some people just need fear of God. You know, a lot of people have been rescued by jail, by prison. I remember a fellow, as a preacher, and he said, hey, you know what happened to me? He said, I got rescued by jail. And he said, I just went on the same old way, but in prison jail, I got saved and God changed my life.
And friends, sometimes God knows. And sometimes, O’Farrow begins to listen up a little bit when God’s putting it on him. Now, he changes later on, unfortunately. But you see him beginning to crack just a little bit when God’s putting the pressure on him. And, by the way, when the chastening is off, you’ll notice Pharaoh changes back. And it’s a sad deal.
Let’s keep going. Verse number nine, verse number nine here. Eight in verse number nine. We’re just going verse by verse for the rest of the night. And Moses said into Pharaoh, glory over me.
Now let me just stop. Let’s talk about this glory over me. I’ll be honest with you. For years, I was like, what? Is Moses getting proud here? What’s going on? He’s saying, he’s saying, look. Pharaoh, I will give you glory over me. I’ll let you have the honor of making the decision here. I’ll let you have the glory over me. You can make your decision about what I’m supposed to offer you. That’s what he’s saying. He’s not proud and odd of you. He’s saying, glory over me, I’ll give you the honor making the decision here.
And Moses said in the fair, glory over me, when shall I entreat for thee? and for thy servants, and for thy people to destroy the frogs from thee in thy houses, that they may remain in the river only. He said, Pharaoh, glory, I’ll let you have the decision. I’ll let you make, I’ll let you honor or glory, I’ll let you make the decision.
Now Pharaoh makes a really, this is a Hebrew word, stupid decision. He really does. You can put three words for it. Dumb, dumb, dumb, you know, here it is. Here’s a dumb decision. Pharaoh makes. They have songs about it. Verse number of sin. Here’s Pharaoh’s decision. And he said, tomorrow. And he said, bid according to thy word. This is Moses. Be it according to thy word. That thou mayst know that there is none like unto the Lord our God.
Now wait a second. Think about this thing. If you’ve got frogs everywhere, your wife can’t even get in the kitchen. You can’t get in the kitchen. I mean, you can’t even make anything without frogs being in there. You go to sleep, there’s frogs there. Why in the world do you want to wait until tomorrow to get rid of the frogs? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
How many ever heard that song? One more night with old stinking frogs. Have you ever heard that song? You should look it up. Go home and look it up. Bill Bray is the guy we used to. What’s it, Bill, something? We used to hear an old country guy sing that a lot. And look it up. There’s a good song. One more night with the frogs. They made a song about it. Pharaoh, why don’t you just get rid of the frogs now? I mean, Moses is giving you, it’s your choice. Man, get him out of here. I don’t want him anymore. But he says tomorrow. I think he probably had about a thousand servants that would kill him right then, you know. Pharaoh, what’s going on with you, you know?
But aren’t we like that sometimes how we hang on to our pride and our stubbornness and our selfishness. We don’t want to give in? That’s Pharaoh. So he spent another night with the frogs. I mean, just go ahead and sleep with them one more night if you really want to. Dumb.
Can I say the best time to take care of sin is right now? Don’t debate about that music or that drink or that whatever it is, stubbornness we all have. Just give it up right now.
Years ago, I was traveling from Florida up to Michigan and we’re going to go to Bible College and go visit my sister, Brother Lowe in Michigan. And I was back in the day when there was consent tapes, amen? No, it wasn’t 8-track. I’m not that old, okay? It wasn’t real to real, all right? It wasn’t. It was cassette tapes. And I had some music. It wasn’t the worst. It was questionable. And even today, it’s a little bit questionable. But, well, the Holy Spirit was on me. And I saw stop at the very next exit. And I took that thing out. And so, Lord, I’m not even at this point sure if it’s right or wrong, but you know, I’m just going to get rid of it for you right now. And I put it in the trash.
I got back on the interstate 75 head north. I’m glad I was putting distance between me and that because I couldn’t go back and get it again. We have a person, I’ve told stories like that, we have a person in our church and they came to me. They said, Pastor, I have a similar story. I think they stopped, maybe where there’s a car wash or something, but they took their music and they put it in the trash kid. They said they went down just like a block or two little bit. And they came back, and they changed their mind, you know. And they’re going to get it out, and somebody had already got it out of the trash. What about that?
The best time to say no to sin is to wait till tomorrow. It’ll never come. In the meantime, it gives the devil so many more chances to tempt you. And the longer you hang on to it, the harder it is to let go of it, just give it up now. There are a lot in the world tomorrow. That’s just how dumb we get when we want to hold on our sin. And I’ll say, I’m sorry tomorrow. I’ll do it now. Just take care of it tomorrow. Don’t give the devil a chance. Just get ready to your sin. Just give it up.
Now, I like this. I like this in verse number 10. I like the last part of it here. It’s a wonderful thing. He said tomorrow, Moses said, all right, be it according to thy word, that thou mayst know that there is none like unto the Lord Jehovah. Our God.
Here’s the thing I like about it. Moses, he was caught right in the middle of the fight, but he wasn’t making it about him. It was about God. That’s so good of Moses. Pride, what’s that middle letter? P.R. It’s just what it’s all about us. My feelings, bad thoughts. Who cares in some ways? What about God?
And Moses is talking to Pharaoh and he didn’t say, well, good, I’m tired of this battle. I’m getting attacked on every angle. I can’t sleep at nighttime. And my wife and my boys are back over there in the backside of the desert. I’m stuck here by myself. I’m going through all. He didn’t do that. He said, hey, so you know who Jehovah is. Praise the Lord, he was just wise enough and strong enough to say it’s not about me. It’s about the Lord.
By the way, when you’re in the middle of the battle, it’s easy to get about us. My feelings and my fault, my, my, my, my, me, me. But Moses is good, and so you’ll know who Jehovah is. Well, it’s a good thing. It’s such a good thing. And the Lord uses people who keep it in their heart. It’s about the Lord, not about me. That’s the Lord uses people like that.
Let’s keep going. We’re in verse number 11. We’re going to read a little bit here, all right? All right. Verse number 11, we got to hurry on. Verse number 11, and the frogs shall depart from thee and from thy houses and from thy servants and from thy people. They shall remain in the river only.
And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. Moses cried unto the Lord because of the frogs, which he had brought against Pharaoh. And the Lord did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died out of the houses and out of the villages and out of the fields. and they gather them together upon heaps, and the land stink.
You know, God often hears the prayers of the righteous when you pray for the sinful. Oh, Pharaoh is a sinful man, hardened. He’s kept lifting himself up as deity. Wicked man. But Moses prayed for him, and God said, I’ll hear that.
You know that person at work that just cusses God and mean to you and won’t give you the time of day? I think about somebody right now. Even today, and I love them. I don’t know much because they won’t even look at me. I mean, I’m talking about I’ve waved at them so many times. In my neighborhood, all of them know I’m a preacher. I guess that’s the thing. I have to even take it, praise Lord, my wife, I didn’t do any work. My wife made some food. I take it over there, too, my kids got it, took it and said. But they wouldn’t even look at me.
I say that to say this, you may be the best thing they have going for them. Just your prayers for them. Don’t get mad and anger and bitter at them. Pray for them. Well, God’s not going to hear me pray for those sinful people like that. Well, he did when Moses prayed for Pharaoh. God said, all right. Pray for him.
God hears the prayers of the righteous are his delight. The prayer of the upright is his delight, Provenor says. A righteous man, the effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Just pray. Moses prayed. God said, all right, all right.
This is the interesting fault. We won’t really develop it. But here’s the fault. The Lord caused their false God. Remember all the five pictures. He caused their false God that they were worshipping. He caused them to die. They didn’t kill all those wrongs. They died on their own. God had that. And he made him stink. Sometimes the gods we worship at the end of the day, God makes it where they just.
How many wealthy people said, you know, if I go back, I go back and change it. Not that you can’t have both, but they chose money over their family or over their marriage. And I would say, I wish I would go back and change that. And that money in some way stinks to them. And God can do that. He did it here in this case.
But let’s look at the last verse we’ll look at it tonight as far as here in Exodus. Look at verse number 15, Exodus 815. But when Pharaoh saw there was respite, the frogs are dead and gone. He, not God, he hardened his heart. And hearkened not unto them as the Lord had said. That’s sad. So sad.
Let me just say a word or two. This is only the second of the ten plagues. We’re going to cover them all at least Wednesday nights. When you have great spiritual victories, I’m talking about where this becomes a world-known thing. And all these thousands of years, it’s also been known. But these great victories, they don’t just, boom, happen overnight. Farrell had said, yes, I’ll let him go, but he changes his mind, and we’ve got a lot, a lot longer to go on this spiritual battle.
Spiritual battles typically are not just one and done. Typically, they’re not a sprint, they’re a marathon. My old Bible College President, Dr. Evans used to say, Christianity is not measured in years, it’s measured in decades. And typically these great victories in the spiritual realm, it’s going to be a long, drawn-out battle typically. I’m just being honest with you. It was here. Paul wouldn’t it be wonderful a fair old second judgment he’s all right I get it and he didn’t give it and it’ll last it but he didn’t do that we don’t know how long months and much and much and much probably took some of these were no seven days most of them we don’t know how long it took for these pledged to happen
But just spiritual warfare typically, it’s a marathon. Look over, if you will, in Mark. Mark chapter number five. This is Jesus. All powers given him in heaven and earth. Thing out of demon over here. But I want you to notice.
It took a little time, if you will. This is what we call the Maniac of Godera. And Jesus has got all power. But I want you to see this spiritual warfare here with this demon or demons. What’s what happens? Verse number eight. Mark five, verse and break. You’re there tonight, amen? Look at this, verse number eight. For he said in him, come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. So Jesus says clearly, told him what to do.
Look at verse number nine and he asked him, what is that name? Now wait a second, you just told him to come out. Had he came out yet? No. Even with Jesus casting out demons, it wasn’t, boom. There was a battle, there was a struggle. It’s a spiritual warfare. It’s not going to be, you raise your Bible, let’s win, it’s going to be a struggle for it. You can’t have a great victory without a great battle. It’s not, boom, it’s time. It’s usually intense for long periods of time, typically. That’s spiritual warfare.
Verse of Mary, come out of the man, thou unclean spirit, verse from nine, he asked what is the name, and he answered and saying, my name is leasing, for we are many, and he besought him much. These demons are besought in Jesus, they’re begging, much that he would not send them away out of the country. You see the battle of the struggle going on?
Now there was there nine of the mountains a great herd of swine feeding and all the devils besought him. Notice of all the devils besought him saying send us into the swine that would be entered into them and forthwith. Boom, Jesus gave them leave. I cast them out, but I just want you to notice there was a battle.
And Moses is over here. I imagine Moses said, only two plagues. And praise the Lord, he’s doing the right thing. But no. Typically the battle lasts a lot longer than we wanted to.
Can I give you a couple things? A couple thoughts. We’re not, we’re just, let me just a couple things. Share one story and a couple thoughts we’re done.
Remember I’ve always told a story about that when I was a little boy and my dad had led a lady out to the Lord. It didn’t lead her to the Lord, but met a lady out solely, and she said, well, I got demons. I don’t know if I’m coming to church. Dad said, come on to church. Highland Park Baptist Church and Tadanooga did see. I was a little bitty fellow, you heard me tell the story, and they pick her up. I’m sitting in the back seat of her back seat in the car. And all of a sudden this lady starts talking to a man’s voice. The demon started talking through her. And your brave pastor, you know what I did? I started crying like a little mama’s boy and got up to the front seat and sat with my mom, amen. Stay on back there in the back seat, we’re going to set up front. You know what I’m talking about that, you know?
Well, I tell that a lot of times, but I don’t know that I hardly ever tell the end of that. Actually, I think it was a Thursday night, visitation night, and the nursery was open, very large church, the nurse was open, mom-dad put us in the nursery, and my dad, I think mom went. And some of the higher-ups men of the church went and visited this lady. And they actually cast a demon out that night. And she got saved. She became a good, godly lady, but a good godly church member.
But the struggle took so long, I don’t know, I was just a little fellow. The thing I remember in my mind, that nursery worker was hot. She was mad. Because… The Chisgars aren’t here picking up their kids. And so she locked, she locked, I’m talking about, she locked everybody else going to pick up their kids, you know, and she locked everything up.
And how many ever been to Highland Park Baptist Church back of the day when it was right in the middle of Chattanooga, Tennessee? I mean, the streets, you know, you walk out in the streets right there, and the colleges right at the September University back in the street, right in the middle of Chattanooga, you know. And I remember she had everything locked up. And we’re sitting out on the steps of the sidewalk because she’s mad. Soon my parents get there, take your brats, you know.
And I sell that to say, you know why? Because the struggle took so long for them to cast, through Jesus and his power to cast that demon out. Changed her life. She got saved. But man, there was a battle. It took time. So when you’re going through spiritual warfare, I love it. Maybe every once in a… Not very often. It’s booed. But typically, you’re going to have to hang in the battle for a while. Moses did. It didn’t happen here.
Four things, don’t lose your faith. While you’re going through the long, intense spiritual work, don’t lose your faith that God can bring victory in that situation. Don’t lose your faith. That’s what Satan wants to do.
Don’t let it become about yourself. Praise Lord Moses didn’t fall for that one. Don’t compromise. Pharaoh, he compromises. We’ll study it out. Well, okay, you can worship your God, but in Egypt. No, no, we’re going out in the wilderness. Okay, you can go out the wilderness, but don’t go very far. No, we’re going as far as God tells us. All right, you can go out the wilderness, but don’t let your little ones, can’t get, no, we’re taking the little ones. Okay, you can go and take your little ones, but you can’t take it. Moses didn’t compromise.
And let me say, don’t get proud. You’re going to have some temporary victories. Don’t get proud. Satan always works in that. He likes that one right there. And then this last thing, spiritual warfare, don’t quit. Just don’t quit. Sometimes it’s going to be like you’re walking through mud. It’s all you can do, just put one foot in front of the other. But just keep walking. Don’t quit.
And let us not be weary and well-doing. For in due season we shall reap if we what? Faint. Don’t quit. I don’t like the spiritual warfare, but it’s part of it. It’s intense, and typically it’s long.
Would you bow your heads and close your eyes? Our heads about our eyes are closed. Maybe tonight would just be a great night for us to go to the Lord. So, oh, Lord, keep my faith that you can bring victory. Let me not quit. Don’t let me compromise. Don’t let me get proud. Lord, I’m asking you to being a victory.
How many you say tonight, preach, I feel like I’m in some spiritual warfare myself. Anybody like that tonight? You slip your hand, preach you? I feel like I’m in spiritual. Oh, yeah. You can’t have a great victory without a great battle. Oh, yeah. Oh, letting Moses, let Moses be a great encouragement. He stayed in there. God brought the victory in the end. Don’t quit.
Would you please stand? Would you please stand tonight? We’re going to have a word of prayer. Hey, let’s go to the Lord. We’re asking for great victories. He’s still able. He’s still capable. Maybe let’s just come tonight and pray about Sunday. I feel like we may be getting the devil little riled up. Spiritual warfare. Sundays are a great day. Hey, let’s just pray for God to bring the victory. Would you do that? Let’s pray. You be obedient to the Lord. Would you do that?
Father, thank you for your goodness. Thank you that we can trust and rest in you for victory. Help us to do so. Help us to stay humble. Help us not compromise. Help us not to get about us. Help us stay about you. Help us not quit. Well, thank you, Lord, for what you do. In Jesus, then we pray. Amen.
