A Couple Things to Do When Your Brokenhearted

Key Passage: Proverbs 10:1
Date: June 7, 2024

One more point. We’ve got to get it quick. We’ve got to get it quick.

Because as soon as we are dismissed, we’re all going to go about 90 miles an hour to Old Charlie’s so you can get in there first, right? You dirty rat—rats, you stole my place! I’ll tell you why, it’s not fair.

But for your broken heart: Number one, stay in the yoke. Number two, resist unreasonable blame, confess the rest. Number three, trust those you love to the Lord. Number four, we’re done. Continually.

Let’s go back over to Proverbs 10. We started at Proverbs 10, that first verse. Proverbs 10, that first verse, real quickly here. Y’all not falling asleep, are you? You’re thinking about chicken fingers, chicken tenders at Old Charlie’s, right? That’s what you’re thinking about. And at least Joan is being honest. He’s shaking his head, yes, over there. They’ve got good pies there, too, by the way. Just holding that in there.

Proverbs 10, look at verse number one. Proverbs 10, verse number one: “The Proverbs of Solomon, a wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the heaviness…”

Here’s the last point. It’s 1 Peter 5:7, you know it: “Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.” Here’s the last point: Continually. It’s not a one-time deal. It may be a daily thing. It may be a minute thing. But continually put the weight on Jesus. Continually. Give the weight to Him.

So here’s the thing: You’re going to give the weight to Him, and then the devil’s going to bring it back to you. You’re going to give the weight to the Lord, and your own heart will condemn you and bring it back to you. You’re going to give it to the Lord, and somewhere, somebody along the line, the devil’s going to use them, and they’re going to accuse you and blame you for it, too. And you’re going to have to continually give it to the Lord.

The Wall Street Journal years ago had a story about a little girl named Sally. True story. Sally would just—things would bother her. She had worried herself sick, literally, to where she could not function. And just sometimes little things, but she just got—that became a pattern in her life.

And her grandpa, they said—the article said it was New York, New York—and they had that snowstorm up in New York. And Grandpa took Sally out for a ride. And Grandpa said, “Now, Sally, you see some of these trees? All that snow, it’s weighted them down; their limbs have broke, and some have broke the whole trees from the snow storm, blizzard.” He said, “But I want you to notice. Do you see any difference? Some trees have not fallen; some have. Can you see the difference? The ones that don’t have any limbs broke. Can you?”

She said, “Yeah, I can, Grandpa.”

He said, “Notice those ones that’s got those big leaves. They got broken limbs at least. They catch the snow and hold on to it. He said, ‘Watch those pine trees. Those pine needles. They kind of let the snow fall through them. They’re not broken.’”

That little talk, they say, helped that little girl. The grandpa said, “Hey, don’t hang on to it all.” She says, “That’s pretty hard to do.”

Here’s what you do: You take it. You give it to the Lord, casting all your care upon Him.

You say, “Why would He do that? Why does He—why?” By the way, He says—oh, why is it casting all? That last line of that verse, I love it: “For he careth for you.” He cares about you. He wants to carry your weight.

Like a dad and his son going fishing. That tackle box weighs pretty good. That little boy, he wants to carry that tackle box. And a little while down the trail, he’s heavy; the little boy can’t bear it. And Dad’s been trying to give it to him—“I’ll carry it”—and little John says, “No, I got it.” And fine, the little John can’t carry it. Fine, he lets Dad carry it. Dad’s glad to carry it. That’s why your Heavenly Father is: casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.

If God spoke to your heart, we’d just spend some time with them. That’s right. Don’t wait for anybody else. We’d just spend some time with the Lord where you are.

Here’s a good thing: When I go to the Lord and I confess—unreasonable—I say, “No, no, the Spirit of God leads,” and all that’s unreasonable, but there are some things I need to confess. He always forgives. I’m sincere. I’m honest. I see it as God sees it; I confess it. He’s faithful, faithful, and just to forgive and cleanse.

Here’s the thing you do: Okay, God forgave me. I believe I can forgive myself since He already forgave me. That’s how you start the path of healing from it.

If God spoke to your heart, you slip your hand up. Preacher, God spoke to my heart. I need to give it to the Lord.

God spoke to my heart. I got to stay in the yoke. I’m so tempted to get out. I’m hurting so bad. My heart’s not in it right now. I want to get out. But I’m making a decision. I’m going to stay in the yoke. Going to stay in there for the Lord. Going to keep serving the Lord of my life. God spoke to my heart. I’m going to stay in the yoke. Maybe I’m going to get back in the yoke. But God spoke to my heart about the yoke. If that’s you this morning, you slip your hand up. Preacher, you’re going to stay in the yoke.

Preacher, God spoke to my heart about dealing with unreasonable blame and confessing the rest. By—they don’t live in denial. Allow the Spirit of God to help you in this saying, letting go of unreasonable blaming, confessing the rest. God spoke to my heart about that. If that’s you this morning, God spoke a word to your heart about it. Do you slip your hand up, preacher? That’s me.

Preacher, I need to trust the Lord with those I love. I need to realize they’re in the care and hands of God. I need to walk away from the hospital and say, “All right, Lord’s got it.” He might have to allow some pain, but pain is what’ll help them come to themselves. God spoke to my heart. I need to trust those I love to the Lord. God spoke to my heart about that. That’s me this morning. You slip your hand up, preacher. That’s me.

There’s never come a time in your life when you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. Oh, friend, the weight of where you’ll go for all eternity, heaven or hell, it’s too heavy for you. Would you come and take that weight of going to heaven and lay it down at Jesus’ feet?

Maybe you’re there and you say, “I’ve never trusted in Jesus alone to be my Savior, and I need to lay that weight down at His feet. I want to accept Jesus as my Savior, my way to heaven.” Never happened, but I need to do that today. If that’s you, you realize you can’t bear the weight, you’re a sinner, but I’m going to trust Jesus. Wherever you may be in the auditorium or somewhere else on YouTube, wherever you may be, there you are. Would you go to Jesus? “Jesus, it’s too heavy for me. I’m a sinner. Can’t save myself right now, Jesus. I’m putting that weight on you. Would you pay for all my sins, past, present, and future? Would you be my personal Savior? Thank you for bearing the weight on the cross of my sins. Thank you for saving me.”

If that’s you, just ask Jesus to be your Savior. If you’re on YouTube there, a little below in the description, would you check? “I’ve accepted Jesus as my Savior.” Maybe not at home, I just asked Jesus Christ to be my Savior. It never happened. Just ask to be my Savior. Anybody like that? Slip your hand up.

Friend, let’s take it to our Father, casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. Would you please stand? We won’t be alone. We won’t be alone. We’re going to have a word of prayer. Our instruments will play. We’ll just come and spend some time. If you’d like to spend some time with the Lord in your place where you’re at, that’s fine. If you’d like to come into an old-fashioned altar, would that be wonderful? However the Lord would lead you online, would you spend some time with the Lord? Would you pray and get along with the Lord?

Father, thank you that You care. The times I hurt, these people hurt—You care. Thank you for that. A couple words for He careth for you. Bless your people, Lord. I pray they get close to You during this time. I’m going to thank You, Lord, for what You do, Jesus, that we pray. Amen.
