God Likes to Hear from His Children
Key Passage: Proverbs 15:8
Date: June 7, 2024
Hello, hello. Oh, we got volume now. I look at that. We’re all right. Good deal.
Proverbs 15. Proverbs 15. And just one verse, really we’re going to focus on one phrase, just kind of launch us into the fault tonight. And the title is, God likes to hear from his children.
Don’t ever, don’t ever listen to the devil when he says God’s tired of hearing from you. God’s never like that. Not even close. God likes to hear from his children. And I’m going to try. I don’t know what will happen, but I’m going to try to be a little brief tonight.
Ms. Dumperin said she had a lot of family and people visit today. And I said, well, I’m sure you loved it. She said, yeah, but if they kind of not visit all at one time, that’d be nice too. You know, and so I think a lot of you had a busy day.
But Proverbs 15, just one verse, verse number eight. Would you please stand tonight? Previce 15 and verse number eight. And the Bible there says, the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord.
Let’s talk about that side of the coin for just a moment before we go to the other. We’ll send the rest of the time the other side of the coin. But the wicked there, for sure, would much more, but the lost. They will not trust or depend on the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. It reminds me of…
Romans, 10-3, I believe it is, for they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, going about to establish our own righteousness, have not submitted themselves into the righteousness of which is of God. And they just won’t do that, and so they try to make sacrifices. They try to kind of make up for it, if you will, and it’s abomination to God. God gave his son.
And they reject that. They want to try to make their own sacrifices. And God says, I’m so fed up with that. I’ve given it to them a way to heaven. And they’re right. The best they can do is filthy. Filthy. And so there are sacrifices. It’s abomination of God. God says, I’m so sick of that. Now that’s on the one side of the coin. Okay. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord.
Here’s the other side, the side we want to focus on tonight, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Now the upright, just for a minute before we pray. Of course, I believe that would include salvation. They’d be in the wicked category if they weren’t saved. The upright. You know, you ever say, well, how you doing? Well, I’m doing pretty good as long as I’m standing up. You know, getting up every morning, I’m doing good. They’re upright. It doesn’t mean you don’t fall. Nobody’s perfect. You’ll get knocked around.
And sometimes you stumble, but you’re still standing. By the way, I think you would be in this category. I would think the majority, you’re in church on Sunday night, Mother’s Day, the upright. You’re not perfect, but you’re trying. You’re still standing. Do you get a black eye here and there? Yeah, you better believe we all do. But you’re standing. You’re upright. The prayer of the upright you’re trying.
I think about Miss Shelby. She she oh, and I might get all the details a little confused, but she broke her femur and I think it was fractured in three places, remember? And um, and she had to get out of church for a little bit, but she said, I’m going to get back in there, and she’s here tonight.
And she’s standing for the Lord. The prayer of the upright. It’s his delight. He loves to hear. He loves to hear from his children. You’re not perfect. The devil just beat you over the head and you say, well, you’re not worthy and you’re sorry, rascal, you fell here, but you’re still standing. God loves the prayer of people like that. The prayer of the upright is his delight. Let’s just try to focus on that a little bit tonight.
Would you pray the Lord make this thing real to you and I? Would you do that as we go to prayer? Father Lord, help me to rightly divide. And then, Lord, I pray that you would just send your spirit making this truth so real. Father Lord, not just to their head, but to the heart.
Keep the truth in our heart all week long. Thank you that you’re a loving dad. I come to you all the time. Sometimes I think you must get tired of me. I tell you so much, but you love it when I come, honestly and sincerely. Thank you for being a dad, a God, like that. Bless the people tonight, Father, please. We’ll thank for what you do. It’s in Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.
Thank you so much for standing. You may be seated.
Last night, I was in the room studying my office at the house there studying a little bit, and Ms. Tammy’s phone rang, and it was John. And here’s the thing, here’s a little surprising. John had planned ahead of time, and the Mother’s Day card was already there on time. Now, that’s saying something, folks. I mean, even from a lot of children, you know, especially from a boy, you know. And then he called, and they were talking for a while.
And I had the thought, well, Miss Tammy’s probably going to be flying high because she got to talk to her. Of course, today was Sarah all day long. And this morning I was standing, you know, in the entryway to the Sunday school class, and I like to greet people that come in there, and the Dumpurs pulled right up there. And I’ve been teasing with Brother Dumpur today. He’s going to get me back.
Brother Dumpur hopped out of the car first, and I said, Happy Mother’s Day, Brother Dumpur. And he said, I hate your guts, too. No, he didn’t say that. He thought that, but he didn’t say it. But, and then he went out and helped Ms. Dumpert, you know, opened the door to all those things and been a gentleman and helped her out. And I said, happy Mother’s Day or whatnot, hello, and how are you doing something like that? And she said, I’ve already got, I think it’s 10 texts that I imagine.
So many of those from her children. And boy, it just makes a lady’s day. Someone else has already commented, well, oh, I know who is. I think it’s Brother Kevin. He said, well, Ms. Teresa got to talk to her kids today, you know, something like that. And it just makes a mom’s day. And to hear from her children. And God’s the best parent in all the world.
And God, he’s mothers, I understand a little difference there, but he’s your father, heavenly Dad, Abba Father. And just like when that parent loves to hear from their children, God loves to hear from you. Don’t ever believe the Satan. He doesn’t always do it in words, though sometimes it does, but just…
He’ll put it in feelings almost, he’ll give you that feeling of God’s tired of you. No, no, he’s a liar. God loves to hear from his children. He longs to.
My wife and I had the privilege of meeting, visiting Brother Joshua and Miss Giselle, and we’ve seen, oh, my, Sage, we’ve seen that new granddaughter, their new little girl yesterday, and just sweet little girl. Head full of hair. Wow, I mean, my goodness. And they said Lily Rose had more, you know, what she’s that. I ain’t just as cute as can be. And we had the privilege of doing that, and Lily Rose is there. Just as cute as can be, Lily Rose, you know.
And now, first time we visited him a while back, she took to me. And, well, that just, you know, my head got about that big. You know, this time she liked Miss Tammy better than me. Can you believe that? I’ll tell you, well, I can’t blame her. But anyway, she, and we were trying to get her to say a few words. And when she would say the words, they were just clear. And she said, Daddy, I think, Mommy and those things. And Miss Tammy was being kind to me since Lily Rose wasn’t going to me that good this time, you know. And she tried to get Lily Rose to say, Pastor.
I don’t know, it probably wasn’t at all, but at one point I’ll take it. It was real close, amen, you know. And just a child, just to say your name, it means something. I like it. And you’re God’s child. You’re his son.
By the way, God never has full-grown children. You’re saved. You’re his little children. First John over there, it’s the Greek word, take God. It’s an endearing term. It has to do with little children. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been saved 50 years. You’re still as little child. And you don’t have to come to God all grown up and matured all that.
We’re all about as weak as they come as an honest truth. And you come to him like a little child. And God loves it when you come to him. You just reach out to God and he likes that. The prayer of the upright is his delight. He loves it when his children call his name.
It’s amazing how much the Bible talks about the name of God. And he loves it when you call his name. You realize prayer is the one thing that God tells us to do all the time? It’s amazing. He’ll know them. Let me read a couple of verses for you, Luke 18:1. And it’s better parable unto them to this end that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Pray without ceasing.
Luke 21:36, watch ye therefore and pray always. Pretty clear in God’s word. Romans 12:12, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer. Ephesians 6:18, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit. That’s the one thing God says, I want you. How much? Just always, just be talking to me?
I think I’ve told it. Those of you’ve been around here for years and years, it’s illustration number 37. You’ll know it, you know. But a man took John Rice years ago on a tour of the college campus. I went to, I was interested in college campus, a beautiful campus. And the person that was kind of giving him the tour, he said the whole time, he said, I didn’t know half the time if he was talking to me or talking to God, because there’s always kind of one of the two. He’s either just talking to me or he would be over there. Oh, there’s such a beautiful campus and so pretty. And he said, I thought he’s talking to me, but he’d say,
He said, Lord, that’s so good of you to give this campus to them. And he said, I just didn’t know because he was always just kind of talking to the Lord.
God loves it when his children is talking to. The prayer of the upright is his delight.
It’s amazing how many times in the Bible God invites us to ask. It’s like he’s putting out blank checks all over the places. And I’ll read a couple of them. There’s so many of them. And let me just get a couple of them. Matthew 7:7. Ask, you’ll know it, ask, and it shall be given you, seeking you, shall be open to you.
Matthew 21:22, and all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing you shall receive. John 14:13, and whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified the son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 15:7, if you abided me and my words abided, you shall ask what you will, and it should be done unto you. James 1:5, if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God. Give it all my liberty and it shall be given it to him.
This is amazing verse. Let me just read it for you. It’s Isaiah 45:11. Thus saith the Lord, the holy one of Israel and his maker, ask me of things to come concerning my sons and concerning the work of my hands, command ye me. That’s amazing promise. But God would say, ask me of things to come and command me. That’s amazing that God would say that.
I mean, I just, it’s hard for me to digest that, but it’s all over the Bible. Ask, ask. God’s inviting you to come. Just, you know, verse, you have not because you ask not. It’s just all over the Bible.
Pray all the time. He loves it when you talk to him. Pray when you have problems. Look over it, if you will, in Psalm 50. Some people say, well, you only pray when you have problems and troubles, you know, and God doesn’t like that. Well, I think God would like for you to pray all the time when he covered that, but I think you’d rather you pray when you’re in trouble than never pray at all. I really believe that. Look what he says over here in Psalm 50, verse number 15.
Great verse to memorize. It’s a wonderful verse. Psalm 50 and verse number 15. Psalms 50 and verse number 15. When you’re there, would you say amen? Amen. Good deal. Y’all are awake tonight. I’m, whew, I’m impressed. I’m impressed. Psalm 50, verse number 15. Look at this. And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver thee. And I’ll get tired of it. It’s quit bother me when you’re in trouble. Is that what?
And thou shalt glorify. When you’re in trouble and you call on the Lord, it gives God, it glorifies Him. I think, and I’ve given this illustration what reminds me, but when Sarah was a little, she had a bike and her chain kept coming off, and she had a boy in the neighborhood that liked her. Do you know what I’m talking about Sarah?
She doesn’t, all right, I’m making up these illustrations. Gage. I think so. Anyway, and this boy liked her, and Sarah was a little girl, and Gage said, hey, I’ll fix your bike. I’ll put the chain back on it. And she said, no, my dad said, he’s going to fix it. I said, yeah, you get that boy. Get out of our yard anyway, kid. You know, you brat. Oh, man, hey.
I’m her dad, I want to fix your chain, you know. God’s your dad. And when you call on him in the day of trouble, I shall glorify me. God doesn’t say, get on out of here. It brings him glory when you call them. Now, you’re in trouble and you reach out to God, God says, well, my children believe I’m somebody. Faith is what’s pleased is him anyway.
They say years ago there was a cotton factory and they had a sign there, all the workers. And they had their, of course, not modern day machinery like we have, turning the cotton into fabric. But they had all their machinery. They had a sign up in the factory. It said this. It said if your threads get tangled, send for the foreman. That was like the card in the rule. I had the signs posted about it. They had a new worker.
And his threads got tangled, and he tried his best to get them all untangled. He wanted to make a good impression. It seemed like the harder he tried to worship God, finally he sent for the foreman. And when the foreman got there, he said, you’ve been doing this yourself, haven’t you? He said, yeah, I didn’t want to have to sin for you. I want to do good job. So I was trying to do my best.
And he said, no, you didn’t. You’re doing your best. You got me involved. I’d have helped you way back before it was a whole lot worse. God’s the same way. I think sometimes how foolish I get caught up in something, getting so busy trying to get the job done, and I’ve not been praying. And I get it more tangled.
And God said, I’m the foreman, won’t you call? I delight it, glorifies me when you get a tangle and you call on your dad. He likes it. God likes to hear from his children. He’s your Abba Father.
Look, if you will, over in Revelation chapter 5 real quickly tonight. Revelation chapter 5, if you would, please. Revelation 5, just one verse over there. Verse number eight. Revelation chapter number five and revelation somewhere after genesis somewhere along there I’m not sure where but it’s somewhere after the book of genesis promise you revelation five and would you look in verse number eight please revelation five verse number eight right there you’re already looking at it so i won’t get you say amen you’re there
And when he had taken the book, the four beast and four and twenty elders, we’ve talked about that recently, fell down before the lamb, having every one of them harps, can you imagine that? You’re going to be able to play harps. Wow. Down here, all I can play is the radio and TV and CD player and all that. I’m not good at all that either. I’m the IT. I’ll be able to play a harp.
But having every one of them harps and golden vials, oh little tubes or bowls if you will, golden vials full of odors. Watch this, which are the prayers of saints.
It has to do with like a sweet smell. Like a husband, you ever walk into the house and your wife has been cooking. You walk in there, there’s a, whoa, boy, I like that smell right there. Smells good. Got brother, he’s on his level. He’s trying to give you a hint, Ms. Gator is what it is, you know. But, man, it’s just, woo, you know. And that’s why your prayers are to God.
I don’t have the best nose in the world. I mean, my wife gets a smell something 10 miles away. And I’m like, what are you talking about? I don’t smell it until the last mile I’ll smell it. You know, I mean. And so Miss Tammy has to put a lot of perfume on. But I like it when she puts a lot on. Whoa, boy, that smells good. I like that. You know, that’s what I’m talking about right there, you know. And when you pray.
God likes it. You smell. God walks in the room of your heart. You say, it smells good in here. And Ms. Tammy got that perfume and said, whoa, come on over here, man. Give me a hug and a kiss. You know, whoa, I like that, you know. And God says, come on over here. And God likes the prayers of his people. He delights. It’s like the incense and the vows full of odors.
By the way, every person, every person, you have a little bit of a unique smell. My brother-in-law, Miss Tammy’s sister and brother-in-law, my sister, my sister, my sister, my brother-in-law.
For Christmas, I believe it was, maybe this year, maybe last year, I’m not sure, but they got us this almost like a little case. And it’s got maybe 25 for me, Cologne, of course, for her perfume, a little bitty tubes. And there’s spray, and there’s 25, and they’re all just a little different smell. And you go through it.
And I found them, and I found the one I like. And they said, let me know which one you like. We’ll get you. I’ve let them know. They haven’t got it for them. What’s going on with them? You know, I mean, false advertisement, fake news, you know. Maybe they’re watching there. But it’s amazing you go through that. 25, I don’t know how many, 20, 25. I’m sure it’s probably 25. And they’re all a little different. But you do have those ones. You just got to, it’s unique. They’re all different.
And your prayers are unique. It’s a little different to God. We have men’s prayer meeting 5:20 on Sunday afternoon over my office back here. And I like to, and I don’t try to judge anything like that. But it’s interesting used to hear our men pray over the years. Because we all pray a little different. Not a right or wrong.
But each man can give a unique smell to God, a unique, you can pray to God, Ms. Shelby can pray to God like I never could. And God loves my prayers, but he loves hers too. And God, he’s made us all to feel a certain, if you will, section of his heart.
That’s why God loves all his children. And you can give to God something nobody else can do. He made you unique. And you got just that certain smell, if you will, your prayers. And God said, well, I like that.
And Brother Bill can give me something that, Brother Rick or whoever, we’re all different. And you give something to God that nobody else. God likes that smell. And it’s a wonderful thing. God loves that. Your unique prayers, God loves that.
Now look over, look over if you will, in chapter number eight of Revelation. You’re already in chapter number five. Chapter number eight, if you would, of Revelation. And look in verse number two, if you would. Revelation 8 and verse number two, if you would. And once you see, it says, and I saw seven angels which stood before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. And another angel came instead of the altar having a golden censor.
This golden censure is a thing where they would have all the incense, or maybe a little pot, if you will, and used them made out of copper in the Old Testament of the beginning and then golden ones here. And they had a little fire and it would offer up incense. They would use that in worship to the Lord. Verse number three, another angel came and stood at the altar having a golden censure and there was given unto him much incense that he should offer with the prayers of all. Notice of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne and the smoke of the incense which came with the prayers of the saints ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. And the angel took the sentiention and filled it with fire.
With the fire of the altar and cast into the earth, and there were voices and thunders and lightness and earthquakes. And I won’t go on, I think, a little bit as God’s saints all the years, been praying for justice and God’s saving all that up. And that’s the part I want to get to. Did you notice all these prayers have been saved up?
I’ve been trying to clean out one of my dressers. But the problem is I have some cards from my family members for the most part. They’re tough to get rid of. I mean, when your wife lies and says all those good things about you in a card, man, you’re like, I don’t want to get rid of that thing. And your kids say those things, you’re like, man, I don’t want to get rid of that thing.
I don’t know about getting rid of it, but I need to clean this thing up. What do I do? And I found me another junk place to put all those cards out. Somebody know what I told him? You can’t get rid of them, you know? And God’s the same way with your prayers. God’s storing all those up. And they’ll come a point where all the prayers.
Anybody just get tired of the injustice of our day and time? Especially in the political arena, man, you just get frustrated. You’ve been praying to God, God, would you do something about this? That didn’t go in vain. All those prayers are kept. They’re stored up.
And one day, God will fall all those prayers. Man, it’ll turn, this old tribulation period, it’ll turn on these seven trumpets. Wow, you talk about incredible things that would happen on the earth during tribulation period. Part of that, God, God’s God’s. Part of that, God’s God’s, God of that’s, God of that’s, I delight.
And the prayers my children. I’ve been storing them up. And it’s got your prayers. Those prayers when you’re just broken hearted and yet you poured out your heart of God, God still got them.
Those prayers when you’re lonely and you just felt so alone and yet, instead of turning to something sinful, you turn to God and you poured your heart out to God, God still got those prayers. God didn’t just take and say, well, thank you and thrown him in the trap. He’s got them. All those prayers maybe when you were.
You are longing for God to use you. And sometimes, you know, we’re all hot and cold for now and time. And you say, I want to get back there. And that’s a good thing. And you can get back there, by the way. When you want to get back there, God hadn’t forgotten about those prayers that you pray. God keeps those prayers. I mean, he’s storing those up. It means something to God.
You know, you ever think about this. God has total recall. I don’t know my chimney, I only 52, but my memory. I mean, you know, did so-and-so say such and such to do such? Probably, but I can’t remember. I don’t know, you know. I mean, let me ask my wife. How many of you mean? I’ll tell you. Come on now. I’ll be honest about it. When did that happen? I don’t know. Let me ask the wife, you know. My memory’s not the best, but praise the Lord, God has got total recall.
Of course, he’s not bound by time. But those prayers, they didn’t just toss back the window. These vows over there, they’re full of those, the prayers, 5-8, over there in chapter 8, all those prayers. Hey, let me ask you, how full is your vow? God delights, and he likes, God must get tired of me.
That’s about like a grandparent, getting tired of a grandchild, come and say, Grandma, you’re the sweetest. Have a grandma in the world melts. We were over at Brother Joshua, Mr. Giselles, and with Lily Rose and Sage, and we were talking about Lily Rose. We said, I bet Lily Rose could go over to her grandparents’ house and get anything she wants. Not just…
The far fans, but I said, even Lauren and Joel, and they’re like, yeah, pretty much they’ll give everything, you know. And they said, yeah, we’ll try to, we’ll try to make sure she’s fat and she don’t need either, and still she’ll get everything, you know. That’s just a grandparent. Hey, if you will, and I use this a little lightly, but God’s the greatest, the best grandparent in all the world. And he loves it. The prayer of the upright is his.
He likes it when his children come to him. Would you bow your heads and close your eyes tonight? Let’s just spend some time tonight coming to him. Just, oh, it was Bob Jones, Sr. that prayed one time. He said, Lord, can it just come and sit in your lap for a little bit tonight?
I just need to kind of curl up and set in your lap for a while. That doesn’t bother God. He loves it. God likes to hear from his children. Let’s just shower him tonight. Let’s just shy him with his love and gratitude and coming to him. Would you please stand? Let’s just shine with some prayers tonight. The prayer of the upright is his delight.
Would you come do that? We’ll pray and you’d come. Lord, thank you for being so good. You’re so much better than I deserve. It means so much to me, Lord, to us that you like to hear from us. Forgive me, Father, sometimes I believe in my flesh and the world, the devil, but you get tired of me. You never do. Thank you for them.
Help that truth to be real to us tonight, Father, please. We sure love you. Lord, thank you for loving us. Bless our people in these few minutes. And Jesus, then we ask, amen. Come spend some time and love a long time. Would you do that?
And when the devil says, he’s so tired of you, you’re always coming to him. Just think about a little child coming to a mom or a dad and just kind of a cute little child coming and talking to that grandparent or whatever and how much that adult loves it. Hey, no one’s ever loved you like he loves you. The prayer of the upright is his life. Just dwell on that, would you? I just sing one more verse.
Mother’s Day Sunday night, man, you’re in the house of God. I just believe you’re part of that upright. I mean, and he loves to hear the prayer of the upright is his delight. Having a wonderful God. You got a God like that that loves you that much. That’s just wonderful. And praise the Lord. We won the victory. We get to work from victory. And glad you’re here tonight.
