Garment of Praise for the Spirit of Heaviness

How do you talk to do? And give Him and worship above everything. Matthew 4:10, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and Him only, thou shalt serve. Matthew 4:10.
John 6:37, All that the Father gives me shall come to me. And him that cometh unto me, I will know wise cast out. Matthew—I mean, yeah, Matthew 6:33, But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33. Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Ephesians 6:1, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
I think most of you have heard, Brother Fontaine, he is nearing his time to go home. And he’s nearing that time very quickly. So you’d be praying for the Fontains. From the very beginning, he has said the first Monday he went to ER and found out he had cancer just here recently. For the very beginning, he said, hey, I’m ready to go home. And he’s just the whole time been like that. He’s to the point where really can’t talk at all now.
But he’s nearing then. So you’d be praying for him, if you would. And Brother Almas Rimer, I forgot to mention it. He was out, well, we’re two vet. Usually sitting back there, his daughter’s there. Ms. Sandra, good to see you. But you pray for her dad. He’s in the hospital at Stonecrest, double pneumonia. So you pray for him if you would. Remember, he’s our 96-year-old young man. And so you pray for him, if you would, please, in his health.
And that’d be great. Isaiah 61. This is really an interesting part that Jesus later on in the New Testament, he is in his hometown of Nazareth. He goes to the synagogue and he gets their Bible, some of the Old Testament, the Talmud, and he opens it up to this passage, Isaiah 61. And he begins to read it.
It’s not fully will be fulfilled until after the tribulation period. Jesus comes back second coming and then the millennium reign. He’ll fully fulfill it then. So about, oh, while I was reading it, just imagine him sitting in the synagogue reading it and all of a sudden he just closes it. And because he’s not going to fulfill the rest of the letter on, but he says, today you’ve seen this fulfilled.
And, of course, he fulfilled the promises of the Messiah. He was a Messiah. So just an interesting little fact about this passage. We’re about to read later on Luke 4. Jesus reads it to synagogue. But let’s just read it now. And there’s specifically just a portion of a little phrase that I believe the Lord wants us to cover. And, you know, sometimes as preachers, preaching is interesting. It’s just one sinner preaching to a bunch of other sinners, you know.
And, no, one man, a good, godly man, he was preaching in, it was a preacher’s meeting, a couple preachers, and he got done, and he went down, and another preacher was coming up. He said, hey, were you preaching that to the people or to yourself? He knew he was going through a hard time. And actually was Lee Robertson, Brother Howes, and Brother Howes said, hey, were you preaching that to yourself and to the people? And Lee Robertson wisely said, to both.
And so I feel like this may be more pointed towards me than you this morning, but both of us maybe will get something out of it. But Isaiah 61, we’re going to start in verse number one. Would you please stand, out of respect to the word of God, Isaiah 61 and verse number one. And the Bible says, the spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captains and the opening of the prison to them that are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn, to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes. Here’s the part I, where we’re getting to it. The oil of joy for mourning, here it is, the garment of praise.
For the spirit of heaviness. One of the reasons Jesus came to give the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that that might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that he might be glorified. Would you, just for a little bit, focus with me on that little phrase, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Just that little phrase for a little bit this morning.
Everything the Bible says is there for a reason. The way he says it is a reason. Then I want you to notice that he says the spirit of heaviness. That’s interesting. Spirit. Spirit is not something tangible. You can reach out and touch. It’s an attitude. It’s the atmosphere. And he says the spirit of heaviness, an attitude that just, you ever have a, you just feel heavy? Yes, sir. You feel like you got about a thousand pounds on you, you just, everywhere you go, you just, you just feel tired. You ever, young people, maybe sometimes you feel like this, you feel like everybody’s getting on to me everywhere I go.
And somebody you say, yes, I feel like that all the time, you know. But just the spirit, the spirit of being overwhelmed comes over to you, a feeling, a spirit, I cannot win. There’s nothing I can do. I just, or maybe it’s something you’re trying to overcome. And the spirit, I can’t overcome this thing. It’s a spirit, it’s an attitude. Sometimes with that spirit of heaviness comes on, you don’t want to get up in the morning.
You say, I have that spirit every morning, amen, you know. This spirit of discouragement, a spirit of, I mean, you’re just weighted down with life. Health problems can do that to you. Sickness, especially over the long haul, you just get sick and tired of being sick and tired. You just get heavy. You wear out.
You feel like you’re walking through mud. You ever walk through deep mud wherever foot, man, your foot sinks out in there a little bit. Somebody’s a little bit. And it just wears you out and you can’t go fast. And you just feel like that all the time. The spirit of heaviness. If you live long enough, you’ll experience that spirit of heaviness. You don’t talk about it. It’ll come. By the way.
It’s not that you’re a weak person that you’re going to experience that if you’re long enough. It’s going to happen to us all. But notice he said, the spirit of heaviness. And then he says, back there in verse number three, he says, the garment of praise. Now, garment is something tangible.
You can touch a garment. You know, it’s something that you know if you have it on or not. Anybody, any men, you can vent with me a little bit here. Any men, maybe ladies, I don’t know, but you just get tired of having to pick out something that matches. Anybody, you with me out there?
I mean, and then they added in colored shirts. You know, if you didn’t wear colored shirts for a while, you just weren’t in, you know. And I’m like, I had it hard enough time matching. Now we got colored shirts to match, you know. Colored shirts, you don’t have to wear them and still be in in our day and time. You know, there’s kind of wearing that a little bit. You still wear them, of course. But now it’s colored socks, happy socks, amen. So now, Brother Frank’s taking care of me, you know. But garments. See, sit now a garment of praise, it’s something tangible.
You can’t always reach out and maybe say, I’m going to take off this spirit of heaviness. It’s intangible. But you can, you can reach in the closet and say, I’m going to put that garment on right there. It’s doable. It’s tangible. You know if you have it on or not. There’s a couple folks about this thing here. Number one, it’s a decision.
When you go to that closet, you say, hey, I’m going to wear that right there, and you decide to put that garment on. Now, you can’t always control the spirit of heaviness, but you and I, we can’t control if we have the garment on or not. Look.
You’re just not going to have that garment out of the closet and on you by just accident. You have to put it on.
And Jesus came, one of the purposes he’s came, because he wants you to decide to put on the garment of praise. You’re going to have to work at it a little bit harder when the spirit of heaviness is there. Because the temptation is for us to go in the corner and suck our thumb and have a pity party. I did that very well. I sucked one of my thumbs off. I did it so much, you know.
But it’s the choice. You choose to put on the garment of praise. And I forget, I was out preaching somewhere and I preached about attitude. And a lady came up and she said, and I was preaching to young people to chapel. But an older lady was there and she said, you know, I’m glad you’re preaching on that subject.
Because when I was a teenager, she said, someone preached something similar about your attitude. And she said, before that, I had a pretty bad attitude. But as a teenage girl began to work at my attitude. And she said, all those years, I look back at the time when I decided to have a good attitude. And here’s the thing, that lady had lupus. And she loved to play the piano. She’s a piano teacher for years, years, but she’s getting to the point. I don’t think she can play anymore. And that lupus just, it can bother your joints and your fingers. And she said, I’m glad now that all these years have been working at my attitude. And she said, I remember way back when I began to work at it, and I’m glad now, because I never knew I was going to have lupus. And one of the things I love to do, I can’t play the piano anymore.
But she was working at is what I’m trying to get at. She was challenged and she said, I’m going to have on that garment. Now, friend, it’s not a matter. It’s not, let’s go make it harder, easier, but it’s not a matter necessarily what I’m going through, whether I have the garment on or not. It’s a matter of how I’ve chose to put it on or not.
I’ve been amazed sometimes to watch some people going through the toughest of times, but they have chose to put on the garment of praise. That didn’t happen by coincidence. They chose to put that on. There’s something else that’s interesting. A garment, you don’t necessarily wear it on the inside unless you eat it.
I’m not, I’m not, anybody ate your garment sure lately? Oh, we wear it on the outside.
Here’s an amazing thing, but you know what you wear can affect your attitude? Your spirit. I don’t forget having vacation Bible school and you have these dress-up days. And I think we had superhero day one time. This boy, he had like Superman or, I think it maybe was Superman. He had Superman or one of those, or maybe Batman or something, but he had the mask and everything.
And I tell you what, that kid had changed his attitude. I mean, he was a superhero. Nobody was going to tell him what to do. Now, I remember I thought, man, if I’m in charge of these days, I’m not going to have superhero days anymore because they’re just, it changes them.
Schools I went to, they would have sometimes one day out of the month that boys had to wear ties. And the teachers would say it’s amazing just when they made us dress up. Hard to make a country well wear a tie. You know what I’m saying? But they’d make us dress up a little bit. They said, man, the student body is so much better when they’re dressed up.
Or they say, ladies, you probably heard this. You know, if it’s a rainy, dreary day, wear something bright and cheerful to cheer people up. And I’m saying, those that have studied it will say what you wear affects your spirit.
And God knows that. So God says, I want you to put on, put on your glasses so you don’t knock them off and step on them, maybe, you know. But it says, I want you to put on the garment of praise. You choose to put it on. And it might not be in your heart real good at first. But you put it on, and after a while, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
See? That spirit, your attitude, after how you put it on on purpose, it’s on the outside, but after a lot begins to affect the inside, your spirit. See? The garment of praise. It’s something you’re going to have to do on purpose. Can I just say this? If you allow your spirit, your attitude to dictate you, you’re going to be on a roller coaster ride. Bob was a good day. I feel great.
And you’re going to be on a roller coaster ride. That’s why the Bible says, guide thine heart in the way. See, the philosophy of our day in time is let your heart lead you everywhere. And there’s so much to that. And I’m getting on another sermon. But no, God says, I want you to guide your heart. And part of you guiding your heart is you putting on the garment of praise. You choose to put it on. It’s a decision.
You may have to sit down the living room with you and your spouse or you and your kids and go around the room. All right, everybody’s going to say something they’re praise God for. We’ve had to do it with our family more than once. And here’s the thing. You can’t say the same thing twice. And so after a while, well, they didn’t steal yours, you know. I mean, every time it’s coming out, I’ve got something ahead and the person right before me, they steal my praise. So you’ve got to start thinking to something else.
And before long, you’re putting on the garment and it begins to affect the spirit. I said, look, put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. You can’t always control the spirit, but you can put on, it’s tangible, the garment. You put the garment on, you say, how do I get rid of my mullygrubs? Put on the garment of praise. I can’t get out of this thing. What do I do? Put on the garment of praise.
Sometimes it might take longer than others, but you on purpose put that garment on day in, day out, and you’re consistent about that, and you take the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. He was a missionary. He was discouraged. He was defeated. He was going to quit. And he tried everything. He fasted, which is wonderful to do.
He, hard to do, but wonderful to do. He fasted. He prayed. He got other people praying for him. He read a little bit, listen to preach. He tried everything. And so he said, last resort, I’m going to go home. He said, last resort, I’m going to go over to a missionary. Little distance is when. I’m going to stay with him just a day or two. And if nothing changes, I’m going to quit. And so the missionary knew his coming. They had a little room prepared for him. And he went in that room. And he said, dare to, if God doesn’t do something, I’m going to quit. And there’s a little plaque.
In that room, it said two words. It’s what the plaque said. It said, try praising. And he did so many things, but he hadn’t just tried praising. And that missionary said, I thought, well, maybe God has that plaque for a reason. And so that missionary began to just praise the Lord. He didn’t feel like it. He didn’t want to do it. He had a spirit of heaviness, but he began to put on the garment on purpose.
And they say after hours of that, not even days, but hours of that, he went and he said, hey, I’m not quitting. I’m not leaving. I’m going to go back where God called me and I’m going to keep serving the Lord. I have a change of spirit, a change of heart. Why? Because he put on the garment of praise.
Friend, it’s something you do on purpose. How many after you say, hey preacher, I like to put on the garment of praise that you, amen? Have we got to work at that thing? It’s something we’ll all have to work out. Now, here’s a good thing. Here’s a good thing. When you put on that garment of praise, several things happens. Number one, God will look if you will look over in Psalms, Psalms chapter 22, Psalm chapter 22 and verse number three.
You’ll often hear this when I thought it would be good for you to see it. Psalm 22 and verse number three. Psalm 22, verse number three of God’s word. Once you find that, would you say amen?
Psalm 22, verse number three there of God’s word. He said, But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Now Israel, God’s people. If you’re a born-again Christian, you’re God’s chosen people. You’re part of the family of God, adopted into the family of God. So you can put your name in it. Often you’ll hear people say God inhabits the praises of his people. That’s the verse they get that from. Now, here’s the thing. Look, when you start praising God, God says, you know what? I think I’m going to go down there and meet with them for a little while.
Yesterday I had the privilege yesterday afternoon of going down to visiting the Fontaines for a little bit. And I went in. They’re, of course, living with her son and daughter-in-law, and I went in, Ms. Jenny sitting over here on the couch, and she’s got some old friends there with her. She’s known for years, and they had the church directory up. And I came in, she said, hey, somebody brought me a directory already. And that’s one of the five people have been so good to the Fontains. And…
And she started telling there were some people here, and they were talking about their grandchildren, they’re making sure of their homeschool and to keep them in a good school and whatnot. And so Ms. Jeannie started saying, hey, well, we’re going to build a school in our church. Isn’t that right, pastor? And, you know, she’s, and look at all these wonderful people, just began to brag on the church and brag on what God’s doing here and all that.
Tell these people are going to start a Christian school. And then she started telling them how many people’s came down. And even one of them that goes to a different type church, they said, you know, I fall about leaving my church and going to the Baptist because I just can’t believe. I mean, I can’t see people from my church traveling at an hour to come down to visit me when my end is coming. But your people have been coming, you know. Well, they were bragging real good about you and the church. And I stayed there longer than I planned. My wife told me, she said, you know, you’re not going to be able to go down there and leave real quickly, you know. And don’t you hate it when you know your wife’s right. You don’t talk about it. But they’re just bragging on the church and what all God’s doing and the friendliness of the people and the good church. And I tell you what, I didn’t want to leave. In fact, I might go back there this afternoon, amen, you know. God’s like that.
When you’re just kind of sitting around bragging on God and praising God. God says, you know, I think I’ll go over there and drink some sweet tea with him.
Yeah, God inhabits. Now, here’s the wonderful thing. When God and his presence come in your life, what’s the Bible says? In thy presence is fullness of joy. Yeah. That’s why when you put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Because you began to on purpose, praise God, you put the garment on, it’s tangible.
And God says, I think I’ll come down there and meet with those people. And God meets with you. Oh, he gives you times of refreshing, the Bible says. And the joy comes of fullness. Why? Because God comes there. Now, friend, Satan, he wants to get you to dwell on the bad and the negative and the horrible things in your life. And if he can just keep you there, the spirit of heaviness, you won’t travel very far.
You won’t be able to travel long because you have that spirit of heaviness. All friends, but on purpose, on purpose you put on the garment of praise. Another thought about it, just this garment of praise. We think sometimes praise is just a feeling. Oh, I get this feeling. And I love the feelings where they come.
But feelings are fickle, you know. I mean, you might have had anchovies on your pizza the night before, so you wake up not feeling good, you know what I’m saying? Feelings, they change. I mean, they’re up and down. And my old preacher used to say, wives don’t throw anything at me, but he used to say a woman can tell you she loves you, and 10 seconds later say she hates you and fully mean it both times.
Men are like that sometimes too now, you know. But feelings change. They’re up and down. And wait a second, he’s put on the garment of praise. And praise is more than just feelings. What would you look over in Hebrews 13? Hebrews 13. And look at a verse over there, if you would, please. Hebrews 13. Would you look at verse number 15, Hebrews 13, 15.
And it gives us some extra light about praise. Hebrews 13, would you look at verse number 15, please? Hebrews 13, 15, when you find that, would you say, Praise the Lord?
Hebrews 13, 15, the Bible there says, By him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually. Wow, it’s pretty strong. That is the fruit of our what’s the next word? Lips giving thanks to his name. So wait a second, friend, it’s not just a feeling, it’s something we do with our lips, their tongue. Kind of goes in line with James chapter number three when the Bible says your tongue is that rudder that turns the ship. Praise is just more than just a feeling I get. It’s more than that. It’s something I can do. Even when I have a spirit of heaviness, I can on purpose put on the garment. And I began to say, I begin to talk with my lips.
And I praise the Lord with my tongue. I say it. Don’t be like one of those guys. Well, I sure feel it. I never say that. I don’t, no, no, no. It’s more than a feeling. You say it.
It’s amazing if I’m always talking about negative things, I won’t have the garment of praise. I’ll have the spirit of heaviness. It’s what I talk about. Maybe you need to go and just kind of watch your conversation for 24 hours. What are you talking about all the time?
Well, I love the Lord. I praise him. All right, you ought to have been saying anything. I’m talking about it. Maybe go around and brag on the good things God’s done for you. Maybe when you’re just discouraged, you’ve ever been just discouraged? It’s something good. When you’re just riding down the road and you’re just got the spirit of heaviness, just start praising God for everything you see.
Thank you for the grass. Thank you for the sun. Brother Fontaine taught me this. He really did. He’s the one who taught me this. Praise God for the buzzards. There’s God’s trash cleanup service. Can you imagine if there wasn’t buzzards, all the dead animals and the stink to be around? I mean, just everything you see, make it a challenge. Everything you see, you see a car broke down on the side of the road. Praise Lord, that’s them, but not me, right? You just praise him for, I mean, take it as a challenge.
Praise the Lord for this car. Praise the Lord for my foot that can push the gas where I’m going 90 miles an hour, you know. Praise the Lord there’s not a police officer around when I’m doing this. I’ve been a little facetious, but take that challenge. And when you have the spirit of heaviness, it’s just everything you see. Praise God. You’re not going to feel like doing it.
You’re going to be having a hard time because your spirit is heavy. But then you put on. You put on. How do you put it on? Garment, we said something tangible. Well, what you say is tangible.
And he said, now the praise over there in Hebrews 13 is more than just feeling. He said, no, the fruit of your lips. Yeah. Giving praise to God is something you do. You work at it.
Years ago, when my dad was living and my dad lived in Florida, we were up here. And my dad accidentally called our home. I believe it was when we had the landline. He had a cell phone. And, you know, how many ever pocket dial anybody? You know, I mean, yeah, sure enough. And then they call you back and say, what do you need? What do you need? What do you call me? I called you. I called you. Yeah, you did, you know. You look at your phone. Well, I guess I did, you know.
Anyway, but Dad, Dad called, and my wife, she was there at the house alone, she answered the phone, and Dad did not realize he had called. Now, Dad was in Florida, and he used to have a, he was a pest control, he had his route, he’d run his route, but Dad was just always a soul in him. Dad didn’t realize he had called, but the phone, he was in his truck, a little Toyota, white Toyota truck, and Dad had…
And he’s riding down the road and he’d pull over on the side of the road because someone’s walking. He’d start witnessing to them from the truck. Dad didn’t always have the best tact in the world. I’ve heard him many a time. This way it started off sometime. Did you go to heaven if you die today? That’s exactly what it’d say. He’d just pull over. Hey, you’re going to heaven and you die today? And he’d talk with someone. And Tammy said, then he’d get done.
And then he’d write, you could kind of hear the motor run up. You know, he’d take off down the road. He always had stick shifts, you know. And he’d take off down the road. And then Tammy, he didn’t know anybody’s listening. He’d just start, Praise the Lord, glory! Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord. And then he’d find somebody else. And he’d pull over on the side of the road. And he’d just start, going to heaven when you die? And he’d start witnessing to them.
And witnessed to him for a while. Then you could hear him take a while, you know, Praise the Lord, glory, hallelujah, thank you Jesus. It’s just, and that’s what it do for a while. And Tammy just listened in for a good while and all that. And after a while, she started to feel a little guilty. It felt like she was listening in something she ought not be listening to, you know. I’ve been interfering with his privacy, you know. But he was putting on with his tongue. I guarantee him.
He didn’t always feel like it. By the way, at that time of his life, he had cancer. But, friend, it’s a choice. You choose to put on the garment of praise. It’s a decision. You choose to do it. God inhabits the praises of his people. Praise is to be spoken more than just a feeling. And then can I say this, and we’re going to go home, amen.
Can I just say this? It is a great testimony for the Lord. Oh, John Rice used to say, the best billboard God has is a smiling Christian. Yeah. You like to be around happy people, I do. And others do too. And when I put on that garment of praise, you know, this garment looks good on Christians. Yeah.
You know, here’s the sad thing. Sometimes in our Christian homes, we go home and we complain, complain, complain. And that child says, well, I guess that’s what Christianity is all about. I don’t know if I want to do that or not.
When that child grows up in a home, a Christian home where mom and dad are praising the Lord and they’ve taken off the spirit of heaviness. It’s why, or how, by putting on the garment of praise. That child said, well, it looks pretty good to me. Mom and dad’s happy. I mean, I’ve seen him go through trials and they just stay happy. That child that registers in the mind, maybe they’ve got something. I mean, one of the best things you can do for your coworkers is have on the garment of praise. They’ll know. Hey, those in school, they know. And when I have on that guy, and I put it on the garment of praise, others say, wow, old George over there, he’s always happy. Maybe I will listen to him when he gives me that gospel track.
Maybe I will let them. They’re loving, they’re kind, they’re happy. Maybe I will let them talk to me about their God. Because they look good at that garment. They’ve always got their garment of praise on.
You know, somebody’s watching you. It’s amazing. I’m shocked how people watch. They know. They’re keeping an eye on you. My wife’s sick today, and she’s not able to make it. I guarantee you some of her neighbors of, well, both their cars are not gone today.
That they’re watching and when they see you and they say, well, they got an attractive garment on. It’s the garment of praise. It registers with you and maybe maybe the best time for you to have the garment of praise on is when you’re in a valley. You know people can see from mountains around those valleys. They can see from miles someone down the valley.
Sometimes the best witness you and I have is running in the valley. Yesterday as with the Fontaines, Brother Fontaine had shared this with me, and I forgot about it. His daughter-in-law reminded me, and she said, I want you to share it sometimes at the funeral and whatnot in the will, but I won’t share it today, but, you know, Brother Fontaine when he was over here in Stonecrest, one of those nights, and he ate up of cancer. And they knew it, pretty quick into it.
And one of those nurses was having a bad night. And in the middle of the night, Brother Fontaine got to tell her about Jesus Christ. He’s not really where you can’t talk with him anymore. But one of the last things, last time was in the hospital, one of the last things he did, he won somebody to Jesus Christ.
How do you do that? Having a garment of praise. He went in the hospital. That’ll be such a great testimony for the Lord Jesus Christ. They said a businessman got saved one night and he is just so happy he was born again. And he’s kind of debating, is this really real? Am I truly saved or not? And he’s running to get a train, they say, but there’s a little boy that he bumped into and he had a puzzle and he’d spill all his pieces of the businessman. He stopped to help the little boy. And he helped to pick up all his pieces of the puzzle. And the train left in the meantime. And the boy said, Mr. You know you missed your train. And he said, That’s all right. I wanted to help you. And that little boy said, he said, Mr.
By the way, the businessman, he didn’t get mad like he used to. He was still happy. And little boy, he said, Mr. Are you Jesus?
And that man said, you know what, I must have gotten saved because it’s changed me. And I’m a little different, just got more praise in me. Hey, friend, you’re a great testimony when you put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Would you bow your heads and close your eyes, please? Our heads bowed, eyes are closed.
You hear this morning, you say, preacher, I’m going to decide. It’s not really my spirit right now, but I’m going to decide to put on that garment. It’s tangible. I know I can do it, I can work it, I can do it. Preacher, God spoke to my heart. I’m going to decide this morning. I’m going to put on the garment of praise. God spoke to my heart about that this morning. That’s you this morning. You slip your hand up. I’m going to put it on. I’m going to put it on. God bless you, many, many hands. God bless you. It’s one of those things. We were all have to work at. It reminded me too for sure for him, me too. God bless you. Thank you so very much. You can put your hands down.
Maybe you’re here this morning, you say, I’m going to work specifically at speaking the fruit of my lips, talking, praising the Lord, bragging in the Lord, telling others about the good things God’s done. I’m going to watch my conversation. I’m going to work at this thing on my tongue, praising the Lord with my tongue, not just in my heart, yes, there, but with my tongue. I’m going to praise the Lord. God spoke to my heart about that. If that’s you this morning, preacher, I’m going to work at what I talk, what I say, and I’m going to praise the Lord with my tongue. I’m going to praise you this morning. Just let you end up. I preach of God spoke to my heart about that. God bless you. It’s amazing how your tongue is a rudder. God bless you. Many, many hands. Then can I say this? It all starts with you getting saved. You see, Jesus came. He came, and he came to give you the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. That’s Jesus. You start that by Jesus. You see, after you have Jesus, you’re assured of heaven, a home in heaven, you have something to praise him about. Once you’re saved, he’s forgiven you by every one of your sins. He’s behind his back. He will not remember them anymore. You have something to praise about. For all eternity we’ll have plenty to praise him for once we’re saved, but it starts with salvation.
You hear this morning and say, preacher, I’m not a born-again Christian. I need to get saved. I need to start this. I need to get saved so I can praise them, so I have something to praise them about. God spoke to my heart. If that’s you this morning, just lift the hand up. Anybody like that, just lift it up. I’m not a born-again Christian. Need to get saved so I go to heaven, so I have something to praise them about. God spoke to my heart about. I need to get saved. Amen, I like that.
Hey, Christians, let’s praise the Lord. Let’s praise them. Let’s put on the garment of praise. Would you please stand with me? Would you please do that? And we’re going to have word of prayer. As soon as we say amen, we’ll sing invitation song. As soon as we start singing, maybe would you, God spoke to your heart. Would you come down an old-fashioned altar? Be a great time to just put on the garment of praise. Just come down and just say, hey, I want to talk to you, Lord. I want to give you the fruit of my lips, the sacrifice of praise, and put on the garment of praise. Would you do that? God spoke to your heart. Would you do that?
Father, thank you so much for the wisdom of your word. Lord, help us. Help me, Father, to on purpose, put on the garment of praise. Thank you, Lord. We have so much to praise you about. Father, heaven, a country, church, family, health. We’re going all day. Father, help us to on purpose, put on the garment of praise, help us to make the decision and follow through. Well, thank you for what you do, Lord. Jesus’ name we pray.
Would you come as we sing? Would you come? Put on the garment of praise, would you do so? I understand. You say, I don’t feel like it. I understand. That’s when you need it the most. It’s the spirit of heaviness. It’s to put on the garment of praise. It’s the formula. You see, you don’t just say, well, I’m not going to be heavy anymore. It won’t work like that. No, no, no, you’ve got to put on the garment of praise. It starts. Did you notice the formula? It starts with the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Would you choose this morning? You say, I’m just on purpose. I’m going to put it on the garment of praise. Would you do so as we sing?
Just as I… We’re going to sing one more verse so nobody comes out to be it. But would you do this? Would you just standing there? Would you just go take an inventory of your life, the good things? Would you just take an inventory? Philippians talks about, Philippians 4:6, talk about all these good things. And would you just take inventory of the good things and the good report and just and pure and lovely? And would you take just the inventory? Would you just thank him and praise him for those things? Would you do that? We’re going to sing another verse. And while we’re doing that inside your heart and your mind, would you praise him for those things? So many things. You on purpose praise him. Would you do it as we sing the last verse? Would you do so? Just as I know.
